Nashville police are currently looking for John Drake Jr., 38, a suspect of two counts of first-degree murder. Drake Jr. is the son of Nashville police chief John Drake. “I am shocked and deeply saddened to learn that my estranged son, with whom I have had very minimal contact over many years, is the suspect in this afternoon’s shooting of the two La Vergne police officers,” said Chief Drake.

The officers were investigating a stolen vehicle when they were shot. Both officers were taken to a nearby hospital where one remains in stable condition and the other has since been released. Officials have announced a $2,500 reward for any information that may lead to the arrest of Drake Jr.
