With the crash of Tesla stock, Washington, D.C. metro area Tesla dealerships are feeling the backlash of owner Elon Musk’s efforts to dismantle U.S. agencies and fire federal workers. The Tesla showroom at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Maryland has closed with no reason given for the closure. A spokesperson said, “We can confirm Tesla is no longer a retailer at Westfield Montgomery, and can’t wait to share with you what’s coming soon.” The showroom opened in 2013, and the newest Washington, D.C. area showroom opened last year on M Street in Georgetown. A second showroom is also open at CityCenter DC, which opened in 2017. Tesla showrooms are also open in Rockville Pike, Arlington, and Tysons.
Tesla showrooms have been sites of numerous protests and demonstrations throughout the country as a result of Elon Musk’s policies and support for President Trump. Many people have called for boycotts against Tesla. Tesla has around 350 showrooms and service centers across the country. Despite this closure over 350 showrooms and service centers remain open across the country and have not shown signs of closing.
