Maryland looses to West Virginia, 31-21

Maryland lost to West Virginia on Saturday 31 to 21, despite career days from freshman Stefon Diggs and Perry Hills. Maryland kept the game close throughout the first half, falling behind by 10 from a West Virginia touchdown before halftime. In the second half Maryland held West Virginia, which has one of the best offenses in the country, to 0 points. Perry Hills threw for 305 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Diggs caught 3 passes for 113 yards, two of them for touchdowns.

Hills was sacked for three times, the most notable being in the 4th quarter, which stalled the drive and sealed the team’s chances. “I thought he went out and for the most part did a good part of executing the game plan,” said Randy Edsall. “We have to protect him better. I thought he did a good job, but there are things he needs to do to get better.” The team fell to 2-2 with lost and will have a bye week before facing Wake Forrest. “It was an all right day for me, but you can always do better,” Diggs said. “Big players make big plays in big games. They were a great team, and that tells us that we’re not far off. We just shot ourselves in the foot a little bit.”
