Harry Potter book with author’s notes sold for $228k
A first edition copy of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” that contains author J.K. Rowling’s notes and original illustrations sold for $228,000 at a London auction on Tuesday.
The novel was offered as a part of a charity book sale, which was organized along with the English PEN Writers’ Association. The book was sold to an anonymous bidder over the phone. Rowling’s annotations included editorial decisions, comments on her writing process, and notes on how she created the game of Quidditch. Rowling also drew around two-dozen illustrations on the copy.
As part of the fundraising event, Rowling as well as other best-selling authors were asked to scribble thoughts and drawings into a first-edition copy of one of their books
