Ground turkey recalled by Cargill
For the second time in six weeks, Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. announced a voluntary recall of ground turkey products. Tests found they were contaminated with a strain of salmonella, though no illnesses have been linked with the current recall. The latest recall affected 185,000 pounds of ground turkey meat, less than the previous, which affected 36 million pounds.
Redoubled antibacterial efforts have been implemented, as well as aggressive sampling and monitoring in order to prevent future contamination and recall. It is recommended that meat be cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 Celcius) in order to kill bacteria.
