Furloughed workers refuse to investigate Metro accident
A fatal accident took place in a D.C. Metro tunnel Sunday and furloughed officials do not intend to assist with the on-site investigation.
Former member of the National Transportation Safety Board, Vernon Grose says, “The most important thing for an investigation is to get on the scene and gather as much as you can.” However, in light of the government shutdown NTSB did not report to the scene of the accident.
Instead Metro is taking over the investigation and NTSB has asked them to turn in the report when it is finished. Grose commented, “They will have to work with second hand information. It will be very cold evidence.”
Forty-one-year-old Harold Ingram was the victim killed in the Red Line tunnel while performing maintenance work with two others who were also severely injured.
