Fundraiser provides support for injured police officer
Police Officer Peter Laboy was shot in the head in late February during a traffic stop. A fundraiser was held at local restaurant, Virtue Feed and Grain on his behalf, with a line of supportive residents going out the door. Laboy’s fundraiser has received thousands of dollars in donations with retail stores even donating to the cause. The fundraiser required a $10 donation at the door and proceeded to host silent and live auctions for gift certificates, sports gear, and other memorabilia. Laboy’s partner, Kurt Dove, traveled from Columbus, Ohio to visit the fundraiser, “He’s my friend, he’s my brother,” Dove said. “He’d be here for me, so I’m definitely here for him.”
A previous fundraiser for Laboy was held at the Port City Brewing company and raised over $1,500. Another is scheduled to be held in April. Laboy’s family says he is making progress in recovering every day.
