Final preseason game important for players trying to make the Redskins

For many NFL starters, the final preseason game is nothing more than sitting and watching along with the fans. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has confirmed that the starters for the final preseason game are not going to play. Still, the preseason game is the most important game for the players trying to make it to the team. Rob Jackson, who has been cut two times by other teams over the years and is on the bubble as the Redskins make roster cuts by Friday’s deadline, knows this. “It’s not a day off for me. When you’re at practice, you practice, but sometimes your mind might not be there. But if you’re in the game, you’re in the game. You try and make plays, you try to do the right thing. You don’t take it lightly.”
Some players who start against the Buccaneer’s will almost certainly be guaranteed starting spots. For others, their futures aren’t as secure. Griffin is happy to be on the other side, but still says it’s hard to see teammates being cut. “Talking to the vets, they say you’ll get used to seeing faces disappear,” Griffin said. “I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to that. Hopefully not. It’s just tough. Those guys are all fighting for a job, fighting for a livelihood.”
