As RNC rolls on, Romney gives speech to veterans

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will give a speech about veteran issues in Indiana Wednesday, as other Republicans prepare to talk about national defense in Tampa. Romney plans to give the speech at an American Legion as part of the Veteran’s Service Organization. John McCain and Condoleezza Rice are scheduled to speak at the convention tonight, with Romney flying into Tampa later that night. Romney’s running mate Paul Ryan is also scheduled to speak Wednesday night, where he is expected to focus on foreign affairs and defense.

The RNC’s focus on defense is an attempt to paint Romney as a viable candidate as commander and chief. Condoleezza Rice recently gave him support on the matter of defense.  She told “CBS This Morning” that Romney “would understand American exceptionalism and would not be afraid to lead from the front.” She later went on to criticize president Obama for his handling of Syria. McCain, a former POW, is scheduled to speak at 8 PM.
