Family of man killed by Norfolk police file suit

The family of a man who was fatally shot at a bank drive-through are suing the two Norfolk officers who were involved in the shooting. The lawsuit alleges Officers Matthew A. Watson and Matthew Williams both used excessive force and violated police procedure. The two responded to a report that someone tried to pass a bad check at a bank when Joshua “Omar” Johnson, 22, was killed on May 20, 2013. Commonwealth’s Attorney Greg Underwood claims that Watson was justified in shooting Johnson after Johnson put his car in reverse and the vehicle hit Williams. The lawsuit also claims that by walking behind the vehicle knowing that its only exit was to back up, Williams violated police procedure.
