Facility dedicated to the performance and education of jazz music opens in San Francisco

SFJazz founder Randall Kline’s dream has finally been realized. After 30 years his organization finally has a permanent home. The SFJAZZ Center, the West Coast’s first facility dedicated entirely to jazz performance and education, was opened on Monday. The facility, positioned on the corner of Franklin and Fell in Hayes Valley, measures a total of 35,000 square feet and cost $65 million. With a layout and atmosphere that alludes to a Paris opera house, the new center welcomed guests to its opening concert Wednesday evening. The performance featured such jazz greats as McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea and Bobby Hutcherson.
