Early voting begins in DC
Beginning Monday, D.C. voters can cast their ballots early at several early voting centers throughout the city. The centers are open from 8:30 to 7:00.
- One Judiciary Square, 441 4th Street, NW. Open Monday, October 22 through Saturday, November 3. Paper ballots and touch-screen voting available at this location.
- Columbia Heights Community Center, 1480 Girard Street, NW
- Chevy Chase Community Center, 5601 Connecticut Avenue, NW
- Takoma Community Center, 300 Van Buren Street, NW
- Turkey Thicket Recreation Center, 1100 Michigan Avenue, NE
- King Greenleaf Recreation Center, 201 N Street, SW
- Dorothy Height/Benning Library, 3935 Benning Road, NE
- Southeast Tennis and Learning Center, 701 Mississippi Avenue, SE
Early voting can be a helpful and important tool for those who would have trouble getting to the polls, or who would like to avoid possible lines on Election Day. Here is some important information from the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics to review before going to one the voting centers. Registered voters do not need proof of residence, although it is always a good idea to have some kind of identification whether that is a driver’s license or a voter I.D. card. Those wishing to register during the early voting period or on election day will need to prove residency with a current, valid photo I.D., a bank statement, paycheck, utility bill, or other government document with your name and address.
