Donilon steps down, Rice steps in

Tom Donilon will resign from his position as Obama’s national security advisor and will be replaced by Susan Rice, United States ambassador to the United Nations, according to a senior administration official. The change will be announced by the president on Wednesday afternoon. Samantha Power will replace Rice as US ambassador.

Rice was recently a point of contention after she said the attack on a US diplomatic post in Libya was a spontaneous action occurring during a protest. She was also considered a possible replacement for Hillary Clinton after she stepped down as Secretary of State at the beginning of Obama’s second term.
