Dead newborn found in VA pond

Loudoun County police officers received a call Sunday afternoon reporting the death of a newborn found in a man-made pond in Awsley Court. Police are currently looking for the mother and are concerned about her medical condition.

Police officials claim the mother could have escaped prosecution if she were aware of Virginia’s “safe haven” law, which provides that a baby up to 14 days old can be left with any hospital employee without risk of prosecution.
