D.C. ambulance keeps injured officer waiting

On Tuesday night, a police officer was injured in a hit-and-run car crash. Although his injuries were serious, the officer had to wait over 15 minutes for an ambulance to arrive. The incident has roused a large debate about the response and arrival times of emergency vehicles in the area. Police and other authorities state that the late arrival of the ambulance on Tuesday is unacceptable. The deputy mayor of public safety also plans to begin an investigation regarding the ambulance’s lack of response. He says that 39 paramedic units are supposed to be available in the D.C. area, but the dispatch officer was not able to find an available unit. The injured officer had to wait 18 minutes before a paramedic unit arrived.
