Councilwoman Muriel Bowser runs for mayor

The Associated Presses states D.C. Councilwoman, Muriel Bower will announce her candidacy for mayor on Saturday morning outside of her childhood home. Bowser is a 40-year-old Democrat who has been serving the D.C. Council since 2007.

Bowser openly criticizes current Mayor Vincent Gray who she claims was elected with the aid of $650,000 worth of illicit funds. She was a proponent of Gray’s resignation last summer. Gray, however, has not said whether he will run for re-election.

Other Councilmembers such as Tommy Wells and Jack Evans are also considering running for the position.
