Amnesty International asks Rihanna and Shakira to reconsider performance
International human rights organization Amnesty International has requested pop stars Rihanna and Shakira reconsider their decision to perform in Azerbaijan. The singers are currently scheduled to perform in the nation’s capital, Baku, during the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup of soccer. Amnesty International hopes the pop stars will decline to perform in order to draw attention to the human rights violations in the country. “Today, many Azerbaijani journalists, bloggers and political activists have been arrested and persecuted multiple times,” Amnesty said in a press release. So far neither Shakira nor Rihanna have issued any type of response.
