Actor Ernest Borgnine dead at 95
Academy Award-winning actor Ernest Borgnine died Sunday at age 95. The actor passed away of renal failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The Hollywood legend is most famous for films “From Here to Eternity” and “Bad Day at Black Rock.” Borgnine, who was the son of Italian immigrants, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, and after being pushed by his bother, the late actor turned to the dramatic arts. Borgnine once thanked his mother during an Oscar acceptance speech saying,“I just want to thank my mother for giving me the idea to get into this wonderful profession.” Borgnine, who won a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Screen Actor’s Guild in 2010, can also be remembered for his later roles as the voice of Mermaid Man in “Spongebob Squarepants” and his Emmy-nominated role on “ER.”
