Six Flags America in Prince George’s County, Maryland, will not host its annual Fright Fest this fall, as the amusement park prepares to permanently close its doors just after Halloween. The decision marks the end of a beloved tradition that featured haunted houses, scare zones, and nighttime rollercoaster thrills. A spokesperson confirmed the cancellation on Wednesday, citing a shift toward “daytime activities that the whole family can enjoy” during the park’s final season. Instead, Six Flags will continue with its Kids Boo Fest from Sept. 14 through Nov. 2, the expected final day of operations.
Longtime pass holders were notified of the change and offered alternative Fright Fest admission at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. While fans expressed disappointment over the abrupt end to a local favorite, the company emphasized its focus on “a family-friendly and memorable” farewell season. Six Flags previously announced the park closure, saying the location no longer aligned with its long-term growth strategy. What will happen to the 500-acre site remains uncertain, though officials have promised future redevelopment. For now, Fright Fest fans will have to say their goodbyes in the daylight.
