Maryland lawmakers ended their legislative session late on Monday in a challenging budget year that was made worse by the sometimes unpredictable actions of the Trump administration. The administration’s federal downsizing was a major factor that contributed to the hardships with the budget. Maryland Governor Wes Moore and other lawmakers addressed a $3.3 billion deficit, making cuts throughout the state government and raising taxes and fees.

Additionally, lawmakers announced they were forming a panel to monitor federal actions and provide updates to legislators to prepare them to respond to decisions made by the Trump administration. Maryland House Speaker Adrienne Jones said, “We know these threats will continue after the General Assembly’s 2025 legislative session adjourns.”
