Canada has joined Finland, the UK, Denmark, and Germany in issuing dire warnings to their citizens who might plan to travel to the U.S. This decision has come after stricter immigration laws are being implemented in the U.S.  As a result, Denmark, the UK, Germany, Finland, and Canada have revised their guidelines after some travelers have been detained by U. S. immigration officials. This issue has become heightened for transgender, nonbinary, or intersex people traveling to and from the U.S., because of the updated passport and I.D. regulations in the U.S.

Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs cited Trump’s executive order forcing the U.S. to only recognize two sexes, male and female. If the gender listed on an applicant’s passport does not match the gender assigned at birth their travel permit or visa could be denied or revoked. Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also updated its visa guidelines on Thursday with similar warnings. The ministry recommends that those with questions contact the U.S. embassy for further guidance.
