On his first full day in office, President Donald Trump issued an executive order to end birthright citizenship, sparking immediate legal challenges. Eighteen Democratic state attorneys general, along with San Francisco and Washington, D.C., have filed lawsuits to block the move, citing its unconstitutionality.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta criticized the order, saying, “We are a state of immigrants… it’s enshrined in our Constitution for a reason.” The ACLU also filed a suit, calling the order a “reckless and ruthless repudiation of American values.” Legal battles are expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
