Donald Trump is attempting to delay his sentencing in the hush money case in New York, requesting intervention from the New York appeals court. Despite Trump’s efforts, Judge Juan Merchan has ordered the sentencing to proceed on Friday.
Trump is now seeking an emergency order to halt the sentencing while his appeal is pending. His lawyer, Todd Blanche, argued that a quick decision is necessary to “prevent ongoing violations.”
If the sentencing is delayed until after his inauguration, Trump could claim presidential immunity, potentially stalling the case until his term ends. Trump’s conviction could make him the first U.S. president to take office while convicted of crimes.
