NATIONAL NEWS – Apollo astronaut Ken Mattingly has died at 87

Astronaut Thomas Kenneth Mattingly ll died at age 87 on Tuesday. Mattingly is known for his contribution to helping the Apollo 13 crew safely return after one of their oxygen tanks exploded. 

“We lost one of our country’s heroes on Oct. 31. NASA astronaut TK Mattingly was key to the success of our Apollo Program, and his shining personality will ensure he is remembered throughout history,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.” As a leader in exploratory missions, TK will be remembered for braving the unknown for the sake of our country’s future.”
