Wednesday, New Year’s Eve, will see regular Metro schedules, with the addition of two extra hours on Metrorail to allow traffic home after midnight events. The closing time will vary by station, with the last train running two hours after the usual last train. Also available on Wednesday is the ongoing annual SoberRide event. From 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., partygoers who might otherwise drive after drinking can get a free ride home up to $30 by calling 800-200-TAXI.

On New Year’s Day, Metrorail and Metrobus will run on a Sunday schedule. Special extra trains will run to and from the NHL Winter Classic game between the Washington Capitals and the Chicago Blackhawks at Nationals Park. The trains will run just as they would for a Nationals game in the summer, based on the time of the game. The hockey game begins at 1 p.m. No MARC or VRE services will run on New Year’s Day.
