Petroleum in the Shaw area water system last week led to a three-day do-not-drink order, the closing of schools and hits to businesses in the area, especially restaurants. D.C. Water is still investigating, and has not yet announced the source of the contamination. The ABC7 investigative team has discovered that there are 105 sites in the city where underground tanks are leaking, and six of these are in or close to the Shaw area. The news team there suspects a connection between the leaks and the petroleum smell in the water.
