After the reopening of the Washington Monument and the continuation of repairs at the National Cathedral, Union Station is next up in being restored after the earthquake of 2011. The earthquake caused a crack in the 96-foor high ceiling in the station’s main concourse. Due the the ceiling’s extensive historical nature, the repairs will take around 2.5 years before the main hall can be reopened. The station is also planning a $7 billion rehabilitation of the Amtrak, that will triple the number of passengers it currently allows to ride. They are also plan on installing a high speed rail service.
