New film “The Master” recieves positive reviews
Starring Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman, “The Master” is a dramatic film centered on the story of a traumatized and troubled World War II veteran Freddie Quell and his interactions with the leader of a mysterious spiritual movement, Lancaster Dodd. Some have claimed the movie draws parallels to the controversial religion of Scientology, but if such paralells do exist in the film, they have been lost on its critics. Directed by Thomas Anderson, the film has been called, “superbly crafted,” “altogether amazing,” and “full of vivid moments and unbeatable acting” by its reviewers. The Wall Street Journal’s Joe Morgenstern calls “The Master” “grand, not grandiose, and intimate.” The film is an enthralling journey into the more disturbed corners of the human psyche. Even its less impressed critics, such as USA Today’s Claudia Puig, have labled it “mesmerizing.”
