39 US air staff to be reprimanded for inadequate security

Airport security officials are discharging 25 employees and suspending another 19 after an investigation of improper screening of checked luggage. Accusations were initially made at Newark Liberty International Airport in 2011 after cameras were installed in a screening room to moniter employee activity. The cameras were actually intended to aid a theft investigation. The one employee that was accused of stealing resigned, but this led to the investigation of inadequate screening measures which were picked up on the camera. This led to eight employees being fired in June from the airport. Managers were also implicated in the investigation for failing to adequately supervise their employees. The reprimands add up to the largest single disciplinary action taken by the Transportation Security Administration.
