Watergate Hotel to re-open this summer
After undergoing a $125 million renovation, The Watergate Hotel, (one of the most luxurious hotels in D.C. ) will re-open its doors this summer. The hotel, which opened in 1965 and has been shutdown for the last seven years, will feature: 340 guest rooms, a fine dining restaurant, a whiskey bar, a 12,500 square-foot spa and fitness center and a rooftop bar and lounge with panoramic views of the Potomac River and the city. The staff will get a new look as well, courtesy of Janie Bryant, the Emmy-Award winning costume designer for AMC’s hit show “Mad Men.” Bryant was hired to design the staff uniforms for the new hotel. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Ward 2 council member Jack Evans see the re-opening as another way to create jobs and attract tourists, an economic plus for the city. The Watergate Hotel will also offer an indoor pool, meeting and event conference room, a ballroom and 10,000 square feet of outdoor terraces.
