University Student Killed by Police

A student of Hofstra University was killed by police gunfire on Friday during a confrontation between authorities and a home intruder. Police responded to an emergency call to an off-campus house, finding Andrea Rebello, 21, being held at gunpoint by the suspect. Rebello was shot in the head by an officer as the police fired at the suspect.

The suspect has been identified as Dalton Smith, 30, of Hempstead. He invaded the home Rebello shared with her twin sister and two others, in the early hours on Friday. He was struck by police bullets seven times. The police officer was not identified.
