Two dry ice explosions occur at LAX
On Tuesday, the second dry ice explosion occurred at Lose Angeles International Airport, the first one having happened on Monday. Tuesday’s explosion took place in an employee restroom. Los Angeles police Detective Gus Villanueva said that three plastic bottles with dry ice in them were found, and only one had exploded.
Police are continuing to investigate the situation, but they do not suspect that terrorists are involved. “This appears to be an internal job, maybe a labor dispute or a prank,” said Los Angeles Police Deputy Chief Michael Downing. “But we do take this very seriously. This is along the lines of planting a pipe bomb.”
The FBI was also brought in to help in the case, and FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller stated: “There’s no established motive based on the evidence, and there is no articulated threat associated with the various incidents. Until a suspect or suspects are identified, it would be difficult to comment on motive.” Eimiller added that all theories are being considered, and “none have been ruled out.”
Despite the disturbance, there were no injuries at the popular airport, and no flights were delayed or cancelled.
