Rihanna gives 5K to Illinois high school

Singer Rihanna is giving $5,000 to an Illinois high school for a brief, but late visit there earlier this year.

Barrington Unit District 220 says the money was given in order to cover expenses for security and signs for the singer’s March visit to Barrington High School. The rest of the cash will be used for student purposes.

Rihanna traveled to the Chicago suburb after the school won her “Shine Bright Like a Diamond” video contest. Barrington’s film highlighted the school’s volunteer and community service programs.

Students, however, waited over four hours for the singer to arrive. While they waited, students received free tickets, CDs, and signed merchandise.
