Possible law to be implemented for saggy pants

Saggy pants and bare feet could become a part of a proposal for the boardwalk of Ocean City, Md.

Councilmember Brent Ashley stated that he has had enough of the bad behavior occurring on the boardwalk. So far, this season has had numerous brawls, robberies, and stabbings.

Ashley said that it is time for the boardwalk to return to decency, which is why he would like Ocean City to implement a law to one similar in Wildwood, NJ, which places a $25 fine on individuals wearing saggy pants and a requirement that people over 12 year of age wear shoes. The law would also require that people wear shirts covering their breast or pectoral area.

Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan is hoping the law will not be necessary. “Sometimes at 7:30, 8 o’clock at night, you’ve just come off the beach. You’re in Ocean City because the weather is hot. You don’t have time to go home and change,” he said.

The Ocean City Council is expected to take up the law in the next few weeks.
