Metro station debated at Potomac Yards
Residents and city officials continue to debate the construction of a new Alexandria Metro station that would be located between the Braddock Road and National Airport stations in the Potomac Yards area. Recent years have seen the completion of various large shopping centers, condominium buildings, restaurants, town homes, and roads in the neighborhood bounded by the George Washington Memorial Parkway and Route 1. With many new residents, and many new reasons to travel to Potomac Yards, some argue in support of a new Metro station that could help alleviate traffic and make housing more appealing. Others worry that the construction of a Metro station will only increase congestion and cost the city a lot of money.
A newly released schedule shows a delay on meetings and proposal deadlines. An estimated time frame says that a Potomac Yards Metro Station will take at least until 2017 to complete.
