Howard University student shot and killed

According to D.C. police, a Howard University student was fatally shot and a second student was beaten in an attempted robbery.

The students were walking on Fairmont Street near campus late Thursday night when they were approached by two men. Police say one man pulled out a gun and shot one of the students.

Officers were called to the scene and found the student suffering from gun shot wounds to the chest. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead upon arrival.

The student killed has been identified as 22-year-old Omar Sykes.

The second student was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
