House Republicans vote again to repeal Obama health care law

The Republican-ruled House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to repeal President Barack Obama’s health-care law, highlighting the Republican Party’s commitment to end the measure despite a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that it is constitutional.

Five Democrats joined all of the chamber’s Republicans in voting to eliminate the Affordable Care Act with a tally of 244 to 185. It was the 33rd time Republicans have voted to repeal all parts of the legislation since its enactment on March 23, 2010. The Republicans gained control of the House in January 2011. “I think this is an opportunity to save our economy,” said House Speaker John Boehner. “For those who still support repealing this harmful health-care law, we’re giving our colleagues in the Senate another chance to heed the will of the American people. And for those who did not support repeal the last time, it’s a chance for our colleagues to reconsider.” Democrats in the Senate said Republicans are wasting time on a settled debate. They said the Supreme Court’s ruling is a sign that it is time to move forward with the law’s implementation.
