GOP Congressman says D.C. leaders are teenagers

A Republican Florida Congressman compared District of Columbia leaders to teenagers after a charter was passed allowing the city government to control their municipal budget. Voters approved the charter this week, and if it is passed by Congress, the city government will be able to spend city tax dollars without approval.

During an interview, Rep. John Mica did not claim to be opposed to budget autonomy for the city, but he does believe the District to be in good financial shape. However, he did claim that when his children were young teenagers, “they always wanted budget autonomy, too.”
