General John Allen chosen to be the next NATO commander in Europe

General John Allen, who took command of the coalition forces in Afghanistan after former General David Petraeus retired, has been chosen to serve as the next NATO commander in Europe. General Allen has been given the full support of the Obama administration in spite of so called “flirtatious” emails between him and social liaison Jill Kelly of Florida MacDill Air Force Base, the very same women who’s claims of harassing emails led to the uncovering of CIA director David Petraeus’ extramarital affair. General Allen must undergo a Senate hearing before his transition to become Nato’s Supreme Allied Commander in Europe can be completed. He is being thoroughly scrutinized and the suggestive emails he sent to Kelly have been called innocuous, if somewhat unprofessional. There is no real evidence that Kelly and General Allen have had any type of romantic relationship. General Allen was scheduled to face a confirmation hearing in the US Senate on Thursday for his new role, but, for unclear reasons, that hearing has now been suspended at the request of Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.
