Actor Edward Herrmann, known for his role on Gilmore Girls, and Emmy-nominated portrayal of FDR died Wednesday in his home at the age of 71. Herrmann played Richard Gilmore, patriarch of the family on Gilmore Girls. He was nominated for Best Actor Emmy awards for two portrayals of Franklin Roosevelt in 1977 and 1976. He won an Emmy in 1999 for his role on The Practice. Herrmann’s roles through the years were varied and celebrated. His manager released a statement confirming that Herrmann died of brain cancer.
