DC corrections officer convicted of bribery

The D.C. Jail falls under scrutiny as former corrections officer Jonathan Womble received a little over three years in prison for conspiracy to commit bribery.

The sentence was handed down to 37-year-old Womble in Washington federal court Wednesday.  He was convicted of accepting money to transport contraband into the correctional facility.

Evidence showed that Womble had received a $400 payment in January to smuggle drugs and a cellphone charger into the jail.  The following month there were several bags of narcotics uncovered from his locker.

Womble is now one of four employees convicted of bribery since last December.
