Boy found after fatally stabbing puppy

A 14-year-old boy has been taken into custody after fatally stabbing the family puppy in their home. He was charged with animal cruelty.

Police were called to a home on Mountain Road where they found the boy in his bedroom, along with the family’s 10-week-old St. Bernard puppy covered in blood. It appeared that the puppy was stabbed in the neck and stomach area.

The puppy was dead and was lying on the boy’s bed. A kitchen knife was found covered in blood at the foot of the bed.

Police say there is no evidence of whether the dog struck an attack, and the boy could give no explanation as to why he stabbed the dog.

The boy was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and was charged with animal cruelty on a juvenile citation. He has since been released back into his father’s custody.
