Barry Watson to appear on ‘Gossip Girl’

Actor Barry Watson will be joining the cast of “Gossip Girl” for the show’s final season. The former “7th Heaven” star will act as Serena van der Woodsen’s, played by Blake Lively, latest love interest. The 38-year-old actor will appear as Steven Spence, an entrepreneaur who will quickly sweep Serena off her feet.

Watson is most famously known for his role as Matt Camden on the WB’s 7th Heaven, which ran from 1996 to 2006. The actor most recently appeared in the title role on ABC’s “What About Brian” and on the show “Samantha Who?” In May of 2002, Watson was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, a form of lymphatic cancer. The actor has since overcome the disease and is the father of three children.

“Gossip Girl’s” sixth and final season premieres October 8 on The CW.
