Adam Scott wins Masters

Thirty-two-year-old Adam Scott has become the first Australian to win the Masters. He defeated Angel Cabrera in a sudden death playoff on Sunday. This is the first major title win Scott has received after giving up his lead in the British Open last year.

Cabrera, 43, began the day tied for the lead with Brandt Snedeker at 7-under par. Cabrera held strong as he played through a two birdie, no bogey front nine, but with bogeys on holes no. 10 and no. 13, Scott was able to gain the lead.

Scott’s putting looked as if it would set him back again, with several missed birdie putts throughout the front and back nine. A birdie on hole no. 15 helped to keep him in the running, and a stunning birdie putt on hole no. 18 allowed him to take the lead at 9-under par.

Cabrera hit an excellent shot as well as birdied the 18th hole, ultimately forcing him and Scott into the playoff. Cabrera missed a birdie shot during the playoff on hole no. 10, whereas Scott’s held strong. “I found my way today,” Scott said, after winning.
