WENDY S. THOMPSON

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, DC SPOTLIGHT NEWSPAPER

“If you were headed where I’m headed, you’d be up early too. If you were going to meet who I’m going to meet, you’d be up early. If it was going to stack up for you like it’s going to stack up for me, you’d be getting up early.”   — Jim Rohn

BIOGRAPHY:

Wendy S. Thompson is an accomplished journalist, media executive, and author with an extensive background in public service and political commentary.  Since 2010, she has led the DC Spotlight Newspaper as Editor-in-Chief and CEO. In this capacity, she manages a diverse staff and oversees the publication’s coverage of the Washington, D.C. metro area, ensuring high-quality reporting on local and national issues.

A significant highlight of her media career is the production and hosting of the popular podcast and video series, “In the Spotlight with Wendy Thompson.” Through this platform, Wendy has conducted high-profile interviews with legendary figures across various industries, including Dan Rather, Simone Biles, William Shatner, and sports icon James “JB” Brown. Her ability to extract compelling stories from such notable individuals has established her as a prominent voice in modern journalism. Additionally, she has shared her expertise as a political pundit for the Newsmax Television Network, providing deep-dive analysis on national news and legislative developments.

Congressional Ties

Wendy’s career is defined by her uniquely bipartisan approach to advocacy and public service. She has effectively worked across the aisle to address critical societal issues, collaborating with Democrat Eleanor Holmes Norton on civil rights matters and Republican Chris Smith on international human rights issues. This commitment to non-partisan progress was further demonstrated during her tenure in the U.S. Congress under Congresswoman Norton, where she managed complex case files for D.C. residents regarding housing, employment, and homelessness.

Board Director and Producer

Beyond her political and journalistic endeavors, Wendy is a dedicated community leader and creative storyteller. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Mattie J. T. Stepanek Foundation and is the creator of the “Not Here” Kids Against Gun Violence campaign. Her professional excellence has been recognized consistently, with honors including induction into the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society and recurring mentions in Who’s Who in America. She continues to use her platform to advocate for vulnerable populations, including the homeless, and to foster civic engagement. She has adopted a DC metro area homeless shelter for mothers and children where she throws birthday parties for homeless kids.

Author and Speaker

As a published author, Wendy has expanded her reach into children’s literature through the Wendy Thompson Group. Her books, Sweetie, Don’t Eat That (an homage to First Lady Jackie Kennedy) and Frogs Are Jumping in My Room, blend humor with teachable moments to inspire young readers. These works reflect her passion for creativity and her ability to connect with audiences of all ages. Wendy is also a political pundit and international motivational speaker.  To learn more about her latest book projects and book her for media appearances, visit her official website at www.wendythompsongroup.com.
