Donald Trump endorsed by House Speaker Paul Ryan
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan endorsed presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump on Thursday, saying he’s voting for Trump. Ryan announced his endorsement in an op-ed for the Janesville Gazette of Janesville, Wisconsin. “I feel confident he would help us turn the ideas in this agenda into laws to help improve people’s lives,” he wrote. “That’s why I’ll be voting for him this fall.” He continued, “It’s no secret that he and I have our differences. I won’t pretend otherwise. And when I feel the need to, I’ll continue to speak my mind. But the reality is, on the issues that make up our agenda, we have more common ground than disagreement.” Trump tweeted his appreciation for Ryan’s endorsement Thursday afternoon, saying, “So great to have the endorsement and support of Paul Ryan. We will both be working very hard to Make America Great Again!”

Ex-DC mayor’s chauffeur goes to court
Mark Long, a one-time driver for former District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray, is due in court to decide if he will be able to back out of his guilty plea. Long pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge in relation to the illegal, $600,000 slush fund that helped get Gray elected in 2010. According to court documents, Long was paid with illegal funds to serve as the former mayor’s driver. Since then, Long has argued that he had poor legal representation and therefore he shouldn’t face any longer of a sentence than the organizers of the campaign-finance conspiracy. Gray was not charged in the conspiracy, but lost his bid for re-election in 2014. He is now running for the D.C. Council.

Suit filed against Baltimore, state elections boards
A federal complaint has been filed by a group of Baltimore activists against the city and state elections boards over the most recent election. The group alleges that voting irregularities tainted the outcome of the election. The suit, filed by Voters Organized for the Integrity of City Elections, is against both the city and state election directors in Baltimore and Maryland. Some of the allegations brought forth by the group are that polling places open late, machinery was malfunctioning and a “staggering number of irregularities” affected “any sense of confidence in the election results.” They also allege that one campaign bribed voters with food and money for votes, in favor of one particular candidate. The federal complaint filed by the group seeks to have the results of the election nullified.
