Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has reportedly told several top Republicans that he will forego the possibility of running under a third party. Michael Cohen, one of Trump’s top aides, said that Trump never had any intent of campaigning as anything other than a Republican. When asked about the possibility of a third party run on Wednesday, Trump said “It’s not something I want to do and at some point I will actually totally commit.” Previously, GOP leaders had criticized Trump’s unwillingness to commit to the Republican party on the grounds that a third party bid would guarantee a Democratic win in the election. During the first Republican debate, Trump was the only candidate who refused to guarantee that they would not run as an independent.
