Maryland Senate affirms twelve Cabinet appointees

The Maryland Senate has voted to affirm twelve of Governor Larry Hogan’s new Cabinet appointees. Former Frederick County lawmakers David Brinkley and Kelly Schulz were among the twelve to become secretaries of state agencies. The Maryland Senate unanimously approved Brinkley as the state’s budget and management secretary and Schulz as secretary of labor, licensing and regulation on Friday. Governor Larry Hogan appointed Brinkley and Schulz to their respective positions, and they have been serving in acting capacities for the past couple of weeks. The vote happened after a week-long delay requested by Senator Nathaniel McFadden (D-Baltimore City), who stated that the nominees required additional vetting. Additionally, the Senate also confirmed appointments for: secretaries of health, veterans affairs, planning, agriculture, human services, general services and public safety and corrections. Hogan’s insurance commissioner, secretary of state and adjutant general were confirmed as well.
