Mayor Vincent Gray announced Wednesday that the D.C. fire department will receive a new ambulance, new fire trucks, new emergency and dozens of new fire and emergency recruits. During Gray’s mayorship, the department has come under reproach for poor service, shortages and poor quality equipment, which Gray has worked to rectify. In his statement, Gray, who will leave office January 2, encouraged Mayor-Elect Muriel Bowser to retain the interim fire chief Eugene Jones.
