The unemployment dropped in October to 5.8 percent, tied to an increase in 214,000 new jobs over the month. The Washington Post reports that year’s job market trends are on track to be the best since 1999. Hiring in October was down from expectations, but was offset by the higher results from August and September. Growth was highest in service, retail and health care sectors. Wages still barely float above inflation, as legislation on higher minimum wages is still being decided.
